They say things are bigger in Texas. If that phrase works for talent as well, then Ryan Lawler is most definitely from the “Lonestar State.”
Ryan Lawler: A Young Star With Texas-Sized Talent
The 19-year-old Lawler is one of the Southeast’s most talented and up-and-coming drivers. In just a few short years, Lawler has moved from part-time hobby racer to full-time aspiring superstar.
Lawler showed his talent in his “rookie” season in stock cars, racing in a number of different series in the South, including the NASCAR Southeast Series, PASS South Super Late Model Series and ASA Late Model Southern Division. In his rookie season, Lawler earned two victories in the ASA Late Models at Orange County (NC) and Watermelon Capital (GA) Speedways, as well as a huge Super Late Model victory in the PASS South competition at historic Hickory Motor Speedway.
At the end of 2006, Ryan ventured across the country to the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway in California, where he made a big splash in the NASCAR ranks. Ryan turned heads with an impressive victory in a segment of the All-Star Showdown that was televised live and worldwide on SPEED.
The immediate impact that Lawler had in his Late Model career should not be much of a surprise. He's been racing, and winning, for years. Coming from a family of racing (Lawler’s father Patrick raced in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series), Ryan first began racing in Bandoleros, where he was the Texas State Champion in 1999 and finished second in overall INEX Bandolero National Points. He followed that up with three more state championships in the Legends Semi-Pro and Pro Divisions, along with several track championships as well.
Away from the track, Lawler works at Hamke Race Cars & Parts with legendary car builder and crew chief Robert Hamke.
