Texas native Ryan Lawler and the Billy Ballew Motorsports team took the green flag in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday thinking that they had all their bad luck behind them. On the way to the track, one of the team's rigs caught fire, damaging one of their vehicles, but both Lawler and his teammate Kyle Busch were able to race the event. For Lawler though, the luck ran out as he was involved in a wreck at the start of the event that took him out of contention.
Lawler, who was making his first start for Billy Ballew Motorsports, initially was thrilled after learning his teammate was going to be able to race his equipment, since the damage might have taken Lawler out of contention before the green flag flew.
“Had the 51 rig gotten burned up we probably would have had to sacrifice some of our stuff, but we got lucky and we both got to race,” said Lawler. “We were really pumped up before the race.”
The unfortunate situation within the first lap of the event didn't allow Lawler or the team show exactly how fast he would have been.
“It was the best equipment that I have been in all season,” said Lawler. “It’s just a shame we got taken out so early. The truck turned awesome in traffic.
I just can’t say enough about how good the truck was. All the guys at Billy Ballew Motorsports were great to work with.”
Stay tuned for information on Lawler’s next event.
