The young Texas driver had high hopes for the Nashville race after starting ninth in the race, but any chance of a good finish ended when he hit a slick spot on the track 13 laps in and wrecked.
“I think that there was something on the racetrack,” said Lawler. “The car just snapped around on me in the middle of the corner and there was nothing that I could do to save it. I got into the inside wall and looked up to see cars spinning behind me. It was a hard lick. It bent the clip backwards and moved the motor.”
Lawler was credited with a 30th-place finish. His car was heavily damaged, but that won’t keep him from going on to next weekend’s Easter Bunny 150 PASS South race at Hickory Motor Speedway. Lawler won last fall’s PASS South race at Hickory and even though he’ll have some hard work ahead of him to get ready for the race, Lawler knows it will be worth it.
“We’re heading back to the shop and the car will be on the jig Monday morning,” said Lawler. “We’re definitely racing it at Hickory. I’m pumped up about going to Hickory and racing with the PASS guys again. They race you hard, but they race you clean. I’ve had plenty of bad luck lately and I need to get this monkey off my back. Hickory would be a good place for that.”
